Trachyspermum ammi is very famous spice of India and in many other countries. In the present paper, different aspects of Ajwain are discussed. In rural as well as urban areas it is not only used as a spice but also as indigenous herbal medicine to cure common ailments in human and domestic animals. Study area Kukshi tehsil of Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh is one of the backward regions with major population of Bhil and Bhilala local tribes. Nomadic habit of these tribes enriches them with the uses of local herbs as medicines to cure various ailments. Their herbal knowledge is infused into their next generation through vocal communication. Their knowledge which comes through their experience from the generators has to be properly documented. In present study it is shown that more than 60% of questioned people known its medicinal properties but most of the persons know it (about 80%) as a spice. It is not a common spice but is used with particular culinary preparation to subsidize the adverse effect, such as indigestion, cough formation and Rheumatism etc. caused by that particular vegetable. The present study is to educate the people about the magnificent medicinal properties of the Ajwain so its usage not only limited as a spice.
